First time users can follow the direction below for logging into and configuring their GPS Logic Fleet Management System.

1 - Prerequisites

Ensure Google Earth is installed on the client workstation. Google Earth can be downloaded from http://earth.google.com

2 - Initial User Configuration

Each user will need to log in to their tracking server for a one-time configuration of Google Earth. This step only needs to be performed ONCE per user and is NOT necessary if you only intend to track vehicles using your integrated dispatch application.

If you only wish to track vehicles using your dispatch software, then the configuration steps outlined on this page are not necessary.

2.1 - Logging In

The first step in configuring your computer requires a visit to your GPS web site. Depending on your specific implementation, one of the following should be entered into your web browser for this step.

When the prompt for your username and password appears, enter the account details provided by your IT staff or GPS Logic representative.

2.2 - Configuring Google Earth for the First Time

Once you're logged in, select the layers to be added to Google Earth and click the Track in Google Earth button. This will automatically launch Google Earth and add your layers for real-time viewing.

Note: Each time this button is pressed, it will add layers to Google Earth, even if they are already present. Be sure to delete any excess GPS Logic Tracking folders that may be already loaded in Google Earth.

Once Google Earth is loaded, a folder titled GPS Logic Tracking will appear in the left side bar of the Places pane (see Figure 3). By default this appears under Temporary Places.

Drag the GPS Logic Tracking folder and it's contents to the My Places section to ensure Fleet View is loaded each time Google Earth is opened.

Note: Ensure there is only one GPS Logic Tracking folder in the Places pane. Having multiple instances of this folder and it's contents will result in having duplicate vehicles on your map. Once configured, you should see the GPS Logic Tracking folder with various subfolders including Fleet View and Fleet View Updater.

2.3 - Optional Google Earth Enhancements

Optionally you may want to increase the speed at which Google Earth flies between features. To do this, select Options ... from the Tools menu to bring up the dialog box in Figure 4. Under the Navigation tab, drag the slider for Fly-To Speed to roughly the half way point, then click the OK button.
