1 - Modems

Installation diagrams for GPS enabled modems. All modems support 12 to 24V electrical systems with negative ground.

1.1 - Sierra Wireless AirLink Modems

1.2 - Logic-5000

Installation diagrams, manual, and instructions for the Logic-5000 mobile cellular router.
Power Cable Color Coding

  • Red - Hot at all times. Do NOT connect to switched power. Device can be configured via internal web interface to shut off on timer or low voltage conditions.
  • White - Ignition. Avoid connecting to vehicle's accessory line when possible.
  • Blue - Vehicle ground.

1.3 - Logic-4200

Installation diagrams specific to the Logic-4200 modem.


Power Cable Color Coding

  • Red - Hot at all times. Do NOT connect to switched power. Device can be configured to shut off on timer or low voltage conditions.
  • White - Ignition. Avoid connecting to vehicle's accessory line when possible.
  • Green - Analog input 1. Typically left disconnected and insulated from other wires and connections.
  • Black - Vehicle ground.

1.4 - Logic 2500/2600

  • Yellow - Input 1. Typically connected to code-3 signal on emergency vehicles, or PTO on tow and utility vehicles.
  • Black - Vehicle ground.

2 - Bluetooth Access Point

The following instructions indicate how to configure the Bluetooth Access Point as a Personal Area Network (PAN) for connecting cardiac monitors, PDAs, tablet PCs, or other internet connected devices. Note: The Bluetooth Access Point is supported only with the Logic-5000 (formerly the Vanguard).


3 - Navigation & MDT Installation

3.1 - Garmin Navigation Installation

To connect a supported Garmin navigation device to your modem equipment for text messaging and navigation, connect the FMI-40 cable (available from GPS Logic) to your modem's DB-9 serial connector.

If the FMI-40 cable does not include a DB-9F connector, use the following pin-out to add one.

Garmin FMI-40 Wiring (All modems except Logic-5000)
- Brown: Pin 5
- Yellow: Pin 2
- White: Pin 3

- Brown: Pin 5
- Yellow: Pin 3
- White: Pin 2

To test an FMI-40 cable, connect it to your computer's serial port and run the FMI Utility application: FMI-Test.exe

3.2 - MDT-860 Installation


4 - Vehicles

Vehicle manufacturer wiring diagrams are for informational purposes only. Although specifications may be similar, variations are common. Connections to manufacturer's equipment should be tested and verified by qualified personnel.

4.2 - Ford E-Series Van

Refer to the color-coding information in section 1 of this page. If used, the door unlock output line must be connected to an active low unlock trigger. On vehicles with factory alarms, this is typically the pink/green wire located behind the driver side kick-panel (next to the parking brake).
